An Index of Haunted Locations to visit in the State of Maryland. The index will continue to grow as more locations are submitted. Be mindful of certain areas, they may be private property and require permission to visit.
Antietam - (Battlefield) : Site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. People have gotten strange images in their pictures by some of the monuments.
Baltimore - (Edgar Allan Poe House) - House of the famous poetry and short story author. Haunted by the spirit of a woman who roams from room to room.
Baltimore - (Fort McHenry) : Historic fort of the war of 1812. Famous site where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. Tourists claim to have seen soldiers from the time period patrolling the area. Park Rangers have claimed seeing figures of soldiers patrolling the inside of the fort at nighttime.
Baltimore - (Fells Point) : Historic section of downtown Baltimore, located along the port of Baltimore. In early time fells point became a very lively place with the constant traffic of sailors, gamblers, and other such groups who added to the hustle of the area. Several of the pubs located in the area keep some of the ghosts from the past as guests.
Baltimore - (USS Constellation; Inner Harbor) : A sloop over 150 years old docked in the inner harbor of baltimore. The ships ghost that remain are that of a young boy as well as several sailors who have been seen wandering the decks and holds of the ship.
Bel Air - (Liriodendron Mansion) : Located in the heart of the town of Bel Air. Built by Johns Hopkins founder Dr. Howard Kelly in the late 1800's. Strange happenings have been reported to occur here at night. Shadowy figures have been seen moving inside the house as well as the surrounding areas. Strange orbs of light moving in the windows. Footsteps heard on the ajoining porches as well as sudden temperature changes.
Bel Air - (Memorial Gardens, intersection of Moores Mill Road and Rt. 924) : Reports of a dark figure that will follow you through the graveyard. Usually seen just after twilight.
Bel Air- (Thomas Run) : In the Thomas Run housing development and on Thomas Run Rd. people have seen a cloaked dark figure wandering around in the evening hours. Strange experiences in several of the houses there have been reported, such as; doorbells ringing late at night repeatedly with no one being there and waking up to someone standing over top of them.
Bowie - (Governors Bridge Road) : The Bridge there is known as "Cry Baby Bridge." If you stop on the bridge you can supposedly hear a baby crying that died there. Also, a ghost car can be seen hanging off the bridge at times. The ghost car also sneaks up on people who stop on the bridge then disappears when they turn around to look at it.
Ellicott City (Main Street) : Local store owners and businesses have seen aparations along main st of ellicott city. Many of the building there are very old and have been remodeled. One specific haunt is the Visitors Center. People who work there have reported seeing several apparations come and go through areas of the building.
Ellicott City (Hell House) : Site of the old St. Mary's building. The building has since been knowcked down and all that remains are steps, outlines of stone walls, and some stone pathways. The legends behind the Hell House aren't certain. Some say Human sacrifice took place here by a priest. Others say that Satanic worship was preformed on the site of the old chapel. Black dogs with red eyes and tall shadowy male figures have been seen near the site in the woods. The Hell house is located on the hill just by the train tracks.
Fallston - (Bottom Road) : Located just off of Harford Rd. in Harford County. A young girl in a white dress has been seen windering the narrow part of the road. She was supposedly killed along this road sometime ago. You come to the narrow part of the road after you pass the residential area and fields.
Kingsville - (Jericho Covered Bridge) : Down the road from the Old Jericho Mill. The covered bridge has been around since the civil war. Legend has it that slaves were hung from the bridge by confederate soldiers. Local lore has it that if you stop in the middle of the bridge and honk your horn, you will see a figure hanging in your rearview mirror. Reports describe white orbs in photographs as well as unexplainable mist.
Leitersburg - (Millers Church Rd.) : Located along the Maryland and Pennsylvania line, near the Leitersburg theatre. There are the remains of an old church located on the left side of the road heading towards Maryland. The only things left of the church are an alter and graves. It was said that Satanic worship and rituals were preformed there in the church when it closed down. Now as you drive down the road at night, it is said that a black car will chase you down the road and disappear as you get to the Maryland line. People have also reported strange voices near the church at nighttime.
Marriottsville - (Henryton State Hospital) : A former Sanitorium opened in the 1920's. The hospital is now closed. Those who have investigated this hospital have reported cries echoing through the hallways, shadows moving around them, uneasy feelings, and voices that communicate directly with you. Be mindful when investigating this site; there are large amounts of asbestos and the police frequently patrol this area, looking for trespassers.
North East - (Quarry) : Located off of Mechanics Valley Road near Elkton Maryland from Rt 40. People have sighted strange lights moving through the field in between the side road and the old stone house. White figures were seen following a camera as it was filiming in the basement of the stone house.
Warwick - (St. Francis Xavier/Old Bohemia) : located in Cecil County, the church is roughly 300 years old. It appears only one ghost hauntes the church. The Footsteps of the ghost have been heard, sounding like boots and a soft voice has been heard in umoccupied rooms as if it were praying. The ghost there is peaceful and has showed no hostility.
